The Piscataquis Amateur Radio Club was founded in 1994. We are a small club with about 40 members. Population density is low here so we are quite spread out.
We help provide communications support for local events such as the Piscataquis River Race and the 100 Mile Wilderness Sled Dog Race. The club also participates in ARRL Field Day. We sponsor the St. Albans hamfest in August.
In 1999 we bought a portable repeater system consisting of a modified Motorola Micor mobile radio, a 6 cavity duplexer, two antennas, and an SCOM 5K controller. This is transported to wherever it may be needed for a communications event. For example we set it up on a hill in Dover-Foxcroft during the Piscataquis River Race. Sometimes it is on the air from the EOC in Milo. It is on 147.39 and does not require a tone for access.
